  • 2018 Sovereign Asian Art Prize Finalists Revealed

    The Sovereign Art Foundation has announced the top 30 finalists of The 2018 Sovereign Asian Art Prize – the 14th edition of Asia's most prestigious prize for contemporary artists.Over 70 independent art professionals from across Asia Pacific nominated 328 mid-career artists into the Prize, resulting in more than 530 artworks entered from nominees in 28 territories around the region.
  • Gallery Weekend Beijing Successfully Wraps up Second Edition

    Gallery Weekend Beijing (GWBJ) celebrated another successful edition welcoming global visitors and over 2000 VIPs from around the world between 23 – 30 March, 2018 highlighting contemporary art in China. With a newer and wider programme of events and activities, the art districts of 798 and Caochangdi presented 22 participants, more than 60 artists and 400 works, new collaborations with international cultural partners and a fresh focus on technology and art to the large and interested audiences.

  • Pace Gallery to Present "Loie Hollowell: Switchback", the First Exhibition Dedicated to the Artist in Asia

    Pace Gallery is pleased to present the first exhibition in Asia dedicated to the New York-based artist Loie Hollowell. On view March 27 through May 31, 2018 in Central Hong Kong's Entertainment Building, Loie Hollowell: Switchback is the artist's second exhibition with Pace Gallery worldwide, following her debut with the gallery in Palo Alto in fall 2017. The exhibition includes 9 new paintings and the 9 new works on paper that continue Hollowell's investigation of bodily landscapes and sacred iconography through allusions to the human form, and women's bodies in particular. The opening will coincide with the week of Art Basel Hong Kong as well as with the inauguration of Pace's second gallery in Hong Kong, located in the city's new H Queen's building and featuring a solo exhibition dedicated to Yoshitomo Nara.
  • Samson Young: Songs for Disaster Relief World Tour arrives at the M+ Pavilion

    M+, at the West Kowloon Cultural District, and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council (HKADC) are pleased to announce Samson Young: Songs for Disaster Relief World Tour, an expanded adaptation of Hong Kong’s highly successful participation in the 57th International Art Exhibition, Venice Biennale, entitled Samson Young: Songs for Disaster Relief. The exhibition in Venice drew more than 130,000 visitors during its six-month-long run and received enthusiastic acclaims from the international press and from the public. This first exhibition of 2018 at the M+ Pavilion—and the pavilion’s sixth overall—is open to the public from 9 February through 6 May 2018.

  • Puerta Roja Presents Zhu Qi 「竹氣」, the First Solo Exhibition of Laurent Martin “Lo” in Hong Kong

    Puerta Roja is proud to present Zhu Qi「竹氣」, the first solo exhibition of Laurent Martin “Lo” in Hong Kong, with a new series of his bamboo artworks inspired by the artist’s travels to Hong Kong and the city’s iconic junk boats. Titled Zhu Qi, which is the literal meaning for chi or energy of bamboo, the exhibition is centred around the theme of wind and sails referring to Hong Kong’s maritime origins and seascapes. Zhu Qi will run from 28 February to 5 May to initiate the gallery’s 2018 programme.
  • Michael Müller's first ever East Asia exhibition at Galerie du Monde

    Galerie du Monde is pleased to present prominent German artist Michael Müller’s (b. 1970, Ingelheim am Rhein, Germany) first exhibition in Hong Kong and East Asia from 8 March to 21 April 2018. An Exhibition as a Copy will showcase more than twenty conceptual multimedia works that are emblematic of Müller’s artistic pursuit for exploring the intrinsic relationship between the original and the copy. The newly-created works on show, which come in the form of drawing, painting, sculpture and 3D print, are made from a wide spectrum of unconventional materials, such as blood, urine, hair, egg yolk, fat, bone and semen, among others.
  • First Solo Exhibition by George Condo in Hong Kong Opens in March

    Skarstedt and Sprüth Magers are delighted to present Expanded Portrait Compositions, the first major exhibition by American artist George Condo in Hong Kong. Showcasing a brand-new body of paintings and works on paper that have been created by Condo specifically for the Maritime Museum in Hong Kong, the exhibition will be on view for two weeks only, from March 27 through April 6, 2018.

    Following its debut in Asia last year, Art Basel’s Kabinett sector will return to the Hong Kong show featuring 30 concisely curated projects. Hosted within the Galleries sector booths, projects this year will encompass strong conceptual solo presentations by both established and emerging artists including: artist duo Alfredo & Isabel Aquilizan, Chant Avedissian, Teresita Fernández, Katsura Funakoshi, Apostolos Georgiou, Federico Herrero, Hon Chi Fun, Kim Kulim, Kim Yong-Ik, Jeff Koons, Frog King (Kwok Mang-ho), Wifredo Lam, Liang Shuo, Fausto Melotti, Mihai Olos, Yoko Ono, Gabriel Orozco, Peng Wei, Mark Ryden, Andres Serrano, Song Dong, Rebekka Steiger, Mircea Suciu, Kishio Suga, Frank Walter, Tom Wesselmann, Harumi Yamaguchi, Yang Jiechang, Yu Cheng-Ta and Yu Hong. Art Basel, whose Lead Partner is UBS, takes place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) from Thursday, March 29 to Saturday, March 31, 2018.
  • Art Basel releases gallery list for its sixth edition in Hong Kong

    Art Basel's sixth edition in Hong Kong will feature 247 leading galleries from 32 countries, presenting work ranging from Modern masterpieces of the early 20th century to the most contemporary work by both established and emerging artists. 28 galleries will participate in the Hong Kong show for the first time, including important galleries from the United States and Europe as well as a younger generation of galleries from the East. The show will also feature strong presentations by galleries from Asia that have graduated into the main sector of the show, reflecting the further strengthening and broadening of the art scenes across Asia. Art Basel, whose Lead Partner is UBS, takes place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) from Thursday, March 29 to Saturday, March 31, 2018.
