Participants for Gallery Weekend Beijing 2018 Announced
SECOND EDITION OF GALLERY WEEKEND BEIJING (GWBJ) TO BE HELD MARCH 25-30, 2018 AT 798 & CAOCHANGDI ART DISTRICTS 21 PARTICIPATING GALLERIES, NON-PROFIT AND CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS FROM CHINA AND BEYOND TO CELEBRATE THE CITY’S BURGEONING ART LANDSCAPE
JANUARY 8, 2018 Gallery Weekend Beijing (GWBJ) is pleased to announce the second edition will be held from March 25-30, 2018 at various venues in the 798 Art District and the Caochangdi Art District. After a thorough evaluation from the high number of applications for the next edition, the Gallery Selection Committee is delighted to confirm that 21 galleries and institutions from China and around the world will take part in celebrating the growth of the Beijing art landscape, showcasing new works by a number of global artists on the city’s most important contemporary arts stage.
“The successful first edition in March 2017 set the foundation for Gallery Weekend Beijing (GWBJ) as an important platform for international industry professionals to exchange experiences and share practices in contemporary art,” says Amber Wang, Director of Gallery Weekend Beijing. “As this dialogue continues to develop, the physical surrounding space becomes an essential part of the work. Gallery Weekend Beijing goes beyond a traditional art fair and aims to further appreciates the creative drive of contemporary artists. We aim to present visitors with an originally curated exhibition space to best experience the freedom of expression through various practices and unique results whether on paper, canvas or site-specific.”
As a hub connecting key Beijing contemporary art institutes with Chinese and international backgrounds, GWBJ is committed to building a platform for collectors, museums, galleries, and art lovers to connect, to share, bond and experience the newest contemporary art trends at a single event. During the span of GWBJ, visitors will be able to enjoy a programme of exhibitions, talks and related events which promote the organic development of the city’s artistic ecology.
The upcoming edition of GWBJ will see the addition of several new projects including the Outdoor Public Project, a curated VIP forum of talks, and special events during the five public days.
