  • Tri-City Co-lab takes place in the world’s leading festival city

    (23 August 2017, Hong Kong) – The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) today announced the launch of its latest initiative supporting the long-term development of the performing arts in Hong Kong: International Co-Lab, an innovative tri-city residency programme for mid-career performing artists. The ambitious three-year project will launch in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, on 20 August 2017 – in the heart of the city’s famed festival season – before travelling to Auckland, New Zealand, in 2018 for the Auckland Arts Festival before finally landing in Hong Kong in 2019, when the residency outcomes will be presented as part of the opening programme for Freespace at West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD). International Co-Lab is developed by Forest Fringe (the UK), The Basement Theatre (Auckland, New Zealand) and WKCDA (Hong Kong). The residency is supported by British Council, Creative Scotland, Creative New Zealand and the WKCDA.
  • Talks, Tours and Public Events at “Spectrosynthesis”

    Co-hosted by Sunpride Foundation and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei (MOCA), “Spectrosynthesis - Asian LGBTQ Issues and Art Now” (Spectrosynthesis) will be held at MOCA from 9 September to 5 November 2017. This groundbreaking show will be the first exhibition dedicated to LGBTQ themes to go on show at an art museum in Asia. A series of tours, talks and public activities will be held at MOCA throughout the exhibition period, calling for public participation in order to start an open dialogue, and stimulate thoughts on human equality.
  • The second edition of IDFFHK returns with strong presentations and a premiere line up of speakers and exquisite designs

    This August IDFF2017 – the International Design . Furniture Fair Hong Kong, an upscale boutique design event, will return for the second time with dynamic presentations and a series of talks by international and locally renowned designers and architects. Themed ‘Redefining Luxury’, IDFF2017 will partner with world leading design fair IMM Cologne for the first time to further bolster its position as Asia’s premier design event. Bringing together three sections, the signature Dialogue Speakers Series, spectacular Gallery Showcases and unique Design Exhibitions, IDFF2017 will be held at Hall 3E of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) from 25 to 27 August 2017.
  • Museum MACAN countdowns to highly anticipated opening in November

    (Jakarta, Indonesia – 21 July, 2017) – Indonesia's first museum dedicated to modern and contemporary art, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara (Museum MACAN) – will open to the public on November 4, 2017. The inaugural exhibition, which features pieces from the Museum’s collection, will showcase artworks by Indonesian masters and leading international artists alike, setting the precedent of a program that will continue to highlight local talents alongside a diverse range of global names.
  • STPI Presents Works by International Artist Collaborations at Yokohama Triennale 2017

    Yokohama Triennale 2017 includes works from STPI’s collaboration with internationally acclaimed artists Carsten Höller, Tobias Rehberger, Anri Sala & Rirkrit Tiravanija.These works were selected by Yokohama Triennale Co-director Akiko Miki and are comprised of four innovative composite works created using the surrealist game of Cadavre Exquis (Exquisite Corpse), as well as sixteen individual works. They will be exhibited in the Yokohama Museum of Art alongside Surrealist artworks from the museum’s permanent collection, in a special segment curated by Miki.
  • 'Fantasies on Paper and Enchantments in Gold', Solo Exhibition of Li Huayi

  • West Kowloon Cultural District Presents New Commission by Samson Young at the Manchester International Festival 2017

    (30 June 2017, Hong Kong) West Kowloon Cultural District is pleased to announce a new commission One of Two Stories, or Both (Field Bagatelles) by Samson Young that will have its world premiere at the Manchester International Festival (MIF) 2017. Co-commissioned by the West Kowloon Cultural District together with Manchester International Festival, the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art in Manchester, Edouard Malingue Gallery, and the University of Salford Art Collection, this work will be presented from 30 June until 16 July as part of the festival’s programming.
  • Aric Chen of M+ receives top Design Curator Award at the inaugural Design Prize in Milan

    (30 June 2017, Hong Kong) Aric Chen, Lead Curator for Design and Architecture at M+, has been named the winner in the Design Curator and Design Critic category of the newly-inaugurated Design Prize. Launched this year, The Design Prize is an annual awards programme, organised by the media outlets designboom and Abitare under the auspices of the City of Milan, that recognises excellence in design on a global scale. The 2017 recipients, in 10 categories, were selected by an international jury from over 750 nominees.

  • The first LGBTQ exhibition in an art museum in Asia will debut at MOCA Taipei

    (Hong Kong, 20 June 2017) Co-hosted by Sunpride Foundation and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei (MOCA), “Spectrosynthesis - Asian LGBTQ Issues and Art Now” (Spectrosynthesis) will be held at MOCA from 9 September to 5 November 2017. This groundbreaking show will be the first exhibition dedicated to LGBTQ themes to go on show at an art museum in Asia. Around 50 works created by 22 artists from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mainland China, Singapore, and also ethnic Chinese artists based in the United States and Canada will be presented.

    (26 May 2017 – Hong Kong) Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery is proud to present their first solo exhibition by Hong Kong photographer Leo K. K. Wong, entitled “Beyond Senses, Beyond Colours”, running from 5 - 31 July, 2017. . The exhibition will feature a total of 49 colour and black-and-white photographs spanning over 50 years of creation. The distinctive and differing styles of Wong’s colour and black-and-white works attest to the transition of his interests throughout his artistic practice.

    The fifth edition of Art Basel’s show in Hong Kong closed today, Saturday, March 25, 2017, with strong sales recorded across all levels of the market, demonstrating continued demand for high-quality works by the world’s leading international collectors and institutions. Attendance at this year’s show, whose Lead Partner is UBS, rose to nearly 80,000 – due to the introduction of evening ticket sales and improved crowd control measures – and attracted leading members of the international art world. Many observers felt that this edition had built on the show's strong history to attain new levels – Art Basel in Hong Kong now not only stands as the premier fair in Asia, but also as one of the leading fairs worldwide.
